The term "bit depth" is used to describe the number of bits used to store information about each pixel of an image. The higher the depth, the more colors that are available for storage. The bit depth of an image will determine how many levels of gray (or color) can be generated.

Copyright : The awknowledgement of source data and the ease with which digital data can be modified.**
Legally protects a form, such as images, videos, music or information, which is created by someone's creativity or work. Protects it from being used without permission. It is made up of economic rights. Rights may include permission to copy, publish and share/communicate public. If individuals breach the copyright laws it may lead to punishments, including fines.
**From Stage 6 IPT Syllabus.

Copyright is extremely important relating to Multimedia Systems, as they may use information, images and other sources forms from other authors.

An issue common now involves the online avaliablity of works which increases the breaching of copyright laws. Therefore organisations have guidelines on how materials avaliable online are being used. This includes the creation, transmissions and downloading of materials found online.***
***[LINK]

Examples/Issues Related to Multimedia systems:
- Images taken from someone's photography website, used in there website without copyright permissions, leads to copyright laws being breached.
- A wiki spaces containing information from another source, and did not not 'cross reference' [link] then it breaches the copyright laws.
-Music Video used on a person's website without permission, therefore breaches copyright laws.

Cross referencing: Is to reference where information is gained from other sources. This avoids copyright laws being breached. It creates a link from one source/information from another related source. Examples include: wikipedia, where it contains footnotes(numbers) which link to the references of the information it obtain there information from.

New technological developments based on advancements:
Technological developments include the world wide web and communcation speed (bandwidth). The world wide web is a catalyst for the development of multimedia as it has allowed as increase in interactions between peer all around the world. This includes websites, HTML, javascripts and flash, it has created a more interactive environment for learning or communication.

The increase speed and capacity of communication has allowed more live communication between peers. Communcation online may include, online shopping, communcation and live video conferencing. Multimedia used for communcations may include websites, videos and audio.

The technological developments are slowly starting to combine different formats of radio, televisions and online content. This combinations has increase the way people communcate, learn and view content. An example of this includes major websites such as youtube, which allows communication between peers, as well as allowing videos to be shared online, world wide. Regarding educations, schools are slowly using youtube, to use there websites during class and this makes it easier for the teachers to educate there students, which giving them the opportunity to obtain the information themselves online again.

Another popular website is Mathonline.com.au. This allows students to have the opportunity to learn topics online, while having a voice over and a video allowing students to view math solutions being solved. It becomes another teacher online, which can be accessed at any time and replayed anytime.

Explain the difference between depth first and breadth first searches
Depth-first search: looks down each branch of a knowledge base before processing to the next branch.
Breadth-first search: looks across the knowledge base at one level before progressing to the next level.

Reasons for using a decision support system
DSSs are built to make complex decisions and so must include the use of Intelligent systems.

AI vs HI (human intelligence),

reasons for use of AI:

more permanent
-easy to duplicate (it takes a long time to train a human expert)
-less expensive than human intelligence
-it is consistent and thorough
-it can be documented

reasons for HI:

-creative
-involves direct input from our senses whereas AI relies on processed symbols for input
-continually makes the use of a vast range of experience

AI is used in DSSs because (of reasons stated above) . Though they can only assist in our "decision making".

Multimedia System Project.

Problem definition - ??

Research (what is required from the system?) - e.g. group interviews, questions etc.

Constraints - time, financial, social, ethical, technological, skill

Gantt Chart - how long it will take, who is doing what, when it should be done etc should show anticipated times and durations and actual times. able to record progress.

Ways of presenting the project - websites, powerpoints (with links), wiki
